Parents should be involved in schools to a much greater extent, breaking down the barriers between professionals and the community that they serve.[1] – Martin LutherKing, Jr. The ideal of community - including elimination of the barriers between school, parents, and community - is at the heart of MLK Charter School. Research shows that when schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence volunteer program offers a variety of ways for families, community members and other supporters of our school to share skills and contribute to our learning environment and to play an integral part of our beloved community.
