Accountability Plan
 
The Board of Trustees created the following Accountability Plan to be used by MLK Charter School, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the public to evaluate the success of the school. The goals and measures of the Accountability Plan represent the high standards that the school seeks to achieve.
 
(1) Academic Performance Goals. As excellent scholars, all students will (1) read and write proficiently and (2) accurately apply mathematical principles.
 
Our accountability plan measures are:
  1. Progress against an objective standard: 
3rd grade MCAS
 
2008 reading: 55% proficient  math: 45% proficient
2009  reading: 60% proficient math: 50% proficient
2010 reading: 70% proficient math: 60% proficient

MLK Charter School will meet or exceed AYP benchmarks every year.

  1. Progress against previous performance (annually 2009-2011):
Stanford 10 – 80% of students will improve one percentile from previous test or score 50th percentile or higher on the national Stanford 10 scale
 
Stanford 10 – average percentile of each cohort will increase annually by an average of one percentile on the national Stanford 10 scale until reaching 50th percentile
 
(2) Organizational Viability Goals. The school will demonstrate its organizational viability by the board’s ongoing, active governance, unwavering fiscal responsibility, and the school’s demonstrated responsiveness to its customers. Our accountability plan measures our progress:
  1. Ongoing active governance by the board: Friends of MLK Charter School, Inc. will complete Capital Campaign Scheduling Committee process by October, 2008
MLK Charter School has a long-term facility by September, 2009
Funds development adequately supports facility purchase, construction, and renovation
  1. Unwavering fiscal responsibility:
Audit:   the audit for each fiscal year will confirm an operating surplus or 2:1 ratio of current assets to liabilities on the balance sheet the audit for each fiscal year will have no material findings
  1. Responsiveness to the families it serves:
School will have enrollment of 99% of charter capacity each year
School will have a waiting list for each grade
           
(3) Faithfulness to Charter. MLK Charter School will be the school envisioned in the charter.
        1.   Parent involvement consistent with parent/guardian contract
         2/3 of parents/guardians of identified students will partner with us to improve behavior
         Parent/guardian confirmation of reading at home with 80% of students
       
         2.   Building a beloved community
         MLK will retain 90% of non-graduating students each year,
         excluding students who move out of the area or require a specialized placement
         No more than 10% of faculty members leave annually because they are dissatisfied
        3.   Community service learning
       All students participate in community service learning each year
       All teachers report that the community service learning supports academic achievement
